Procession

  • Procession

All staff and faculty are invited to participate in the procession to the convocation. If you have regalia, we encourage you to wear it, but it is optional.

Please see the For Faculty page for information on obtaining regalia.

The line up area will be staged at 9:30 a.m. in the lower corridor of the Coliseum.  Inside the tunnel doors and left up the hallway or from the coliseum main concourse take the stairs down to the Cougar Lounge (there is a sign above the entrance to the stairs). The Cougar Lounge can be used to change into your regalia and also leave personal belongings in during the ceremony.

Deans of the colleges will make their way to the main stage and faculty and staff can walk to a section of seating reserved for those who participated in the procession.

For this reason, it is important that you let us know if you intend to participate.

Please RSVP by filling out the following form:  RSVP Here

    University Mace

The University Mace will lead the faculty/staff processional at University Convocation. The University mace, a traditional symbol of authority, was created for the inauguration of Samuel H. Smith as the eighth  president of WSU in 1986. The mace is traditionally carried by the chair of the Faculty Senate during WSU's annual procession of faculty members and graduating students at the commencement exercise and convocation. The two-foot long, nine-pound scepter, designed by Tim Doebler of WSU's Fine Arts Department, is cast in silver and bronze and features a globe atop a laurel branch. It is wrapped in a silver ribbon and has the inscription, "Washington State University."
